TRIATHLETE OF THE YEAR (TOTY)
Each year a number of events on the Annual Calendar are awarded TWA State Series status. These events range in distance from short Sprint events up to the full Ironman distance. There are 12 Senior State Series events and 5 Junior State Series events for the 2011-2012 season. Points earned at these events will be used to calculate the Triathlete of the Year Awards, which are presented at the Annual Awards night at the end of the season.
TWA would like to thank ZOOT for coming on board as the major sponsor for the 2011-2012 Triathlete of the Year. ZOOT has had a long association with Triathlon WA, sponsoring the WA TEP program since its inception in 2008. Founded in Kona, Hawaii in 1983 as a garment menufacturer, its innovative product range can now be found in 22 countries around the globe.
Senior Triathlete of the Year
The awards are for Triathlete of the Year (Open) and Triathlete of the Year (Age Group). Awards are made to the top three male and female triathletes in both categories. Athletes wishing to be considered in the Open category may accumulate points only in events in which they competed in that category. An athlete must be a financial member of Triathlon WA at the time of the event to accumulate points for that event.
Point allocation for each Series event will be counted for the first 10 TWA athletes in each category.
State Championship Series events will accrue double points. (i.e. State Championship Sprint, Olympic Distance and Long Course events). Only up to 2 double points races will count towards final TOTY scores. There will be no minimum number of races needed to compete in for award qualification. Only points from the best five (5) results for each competitor will be allocated towards the final TOTY point score. Final award recipients do not have to rank in the top 10 finishers in all races to qualify for TOTY. The final award recipients will be the top 3 scores in each category irrespective of how many races completed.
