Juniors
A participant is considered a junior member if their age is between 7 years and 19 years ( as at 31st December 2012).
Juniors may participate in trystars programs if under the age of 12 years. Trystars participants train and participate at events which are non-threatening, fun and not timed.
Once over the age of 12 years, junior have the opportunity to become involved in the competitive area of triathlon competition. Triathlon WA does not encourage chidren under the age of 11 years to particpate within a timed competitive environment. A strict procedure is required with key engagement from parents, athlete coaches, and medical guidance if parents select this option. More information below in racing under age.
Juniors compete within their age groups (12-13; 14-15; 16-19), and have the opportunity to participate in the annual Triathlete of the Year Competition. Triathlon affiliated clubs and private triathlon coaches facilitate the safe training environment for juniors in the sport. Triathlon WA has 15 affiliated clubs of which 12 of them will cater for junior athletes. Majority of the sanctioned races on the TWA Calendar cater for children over the age of 12 years.

Those juniors who seek to become more competitive and wish to train within a more structured and focused environment may have the opportunity to be involved in the Triathlon Excellence Program (TEP). This program has been devised and advanced with support from our key partners Dept of Sport and Recreation WA and Triathlon Austalia. for more information on the TEP program follow the link to the TEP page.

RACING ABOVE YOUR AGE:
Any individual wishing to race above their age group distance must abide by the following TA procedures:
- Permission in writing from the TA designated Sports Doctor ( contact TWA) – seperate permission required for each race. (Please provide a copy to the Race Director and TWA). Click here for a copy of the consent application form. The process for applying to race up an age group can take some months, so if you are aware of an event you would like to compete in, please ensure you apply early.
