From Fri night the 15th Nov to Sunday lunch time of the 17th, come and join The 6ixth Discipline in a weekend of intensive on course race preparation and familiarisation.

Learn first hand from a coach who knows this course inside out, everything you need to ensure you reach that start line on Dec 8th  empowered and ready to take on the experience of your life.

There is place for 11 individuals only, or 8 individuals and 3 couples, but please note that it is only open to those who are competing in their first ever Ironman.

Background

Triathlon Australia is the governing body for the sport of triathlon in Australia. It is a member of the International Triathlon Union (ITU) and is recognised by the ITU, the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC), the Australian Paralympic Committee (APC) and the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) as the National Federation representing Triathlon. The Triathlon Australia Paratriathlon program is a partnership between Triathlon Australia, the ASC, APC and the AIS. The role of this program is to provide a clear pathway for athletes with a disability to compete at ITU level and the Paralympic Games. The key performance measure for the program is the winning of medals at the Paralympic Games and ITU World Championships.

With the addition of the Paratriathlon for the Paralympic Games program an exciting opportunity exists to lead the development of a World Class Paratriathlon Program for Triathlon Australia. The primary role of the National Manager – Paratriathlon to ensure that potential international athletes are identified, assessed and provided with suitable camp and daily training environment opportunities, with the goal of ITU and Paralympic Games success

What is the change?

We have introduced an additional annual membership category for juniors who are between the ages of 5-11yrs (as of 31 December 2013). Our Age Participation rules state that juniors between the ages of 5-11yrs may participate in age appropriate events,  provided there is no competitive element to the event. They are officially designated as “non-competitive” or “novelty” events.  Juniors aged 12-19yrs (as of 31 December 2013) may compete in Triathlon and Multisport events.

The tables below show a comparison of the previous junior membership category, and the new junior membership categories effective as of 24 May 2013.

Why change the junior membership category?

Due to a growth in junior participation in our sport, we have acknowledged the need to offer young triathletes an inexpensive opportunity to become involved with Clubs, be able to participate in the sport and enjoy the full benefits of membership of the sports peak body. By creating a separate membership category for 5-11yr olds with a lower the membership fee, we have reduced a barrier for this non-competitive age group and provided a more welcoming and accessible opportunity to try the sport that they will hopefully continue into the future.

 What does this mean?

• There is a now a reduced annual membership fee for juniors between the ages of 5-11yrs who will pay half of the membership cost of ‘competitive’ juniors aged 12-19;
• All junior members (5-19yrs) are fully covered by our whole of sport insurance policy for public liability and personal accident while participating and/or competing;
• All junior members (5-19yrs) receive full membership benefits, and are not required to purchase one day membership fees each time they participate and/or compete;
• Our membership registration website has been updated to reflect this new membership category;
• Members in this new category (5-11yrs) who have already joined the previous under 19yrs junior membership category will be contacted and notified of the change. They will have their membership adjusted and will be refunded the $30.00 fee reduction.

This event honors the best triathletes in Western Australia for 2012-2013. The top three recipients in all categories receive awards. 

 If you have not already purchased a ticket to attend the breakfast, please be sure to log on to the TWA website and order your tickets online before Monday 17^th June 2013. Tickets are $40 for Adults and $30 for under 16’s. Dress is smart casual.

Steve said that Nu Zilind was his last Ironman, unless something absolutely incredible happens, but a couple of people have encouraged him to enter this, so he figured he might as well give it a try. Nothing to lose really and there are some very moving stories from a number of suitable candidates among the other entries, so he won’t be offended if you wish to VOTE for others you enjoy watching as well.
