TRIATHLON AUSTRALIA
TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
The aim of the Technical Development Program is to provide opportunities for Technical Officials to gain and provide the best officiating standards for an event ensuring that all aspects of the triathlon are of a high quality, with particular emphasis on the safety and fairness for each competitor.
The Technical Development Pathway is supported by Triathlon Australia and the Australian Sports Commission’s Accreditation Officiating Scheme. It is encourages Officials to attend a number races and undertake various education programs. Those Officials that are interested are encouraged to further develop their skills and obtain higher accreditation and experience.

TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT PATHWAY
1.1. Understand the Race Competition Rules and Policy Document
1.2. Show keenness and professionalism at all races
1.3. Obtain experience at a variety of WA and Interstate sanctioned events – including State, National, International, ITU, Oceanic and World Championships.
(Note: Funding may be available for participation at selected Interstate Races)
1.4. Participate in all Field of Play positions and understand the requirements for each position. (Also refer to the Field of Play Guidelines)
1.5. Record your observations/ concerns/ queries and participate in the Post Race De-Briefing Meetings
1.6. Develop your knowledge by participating in the Mentoring Program
1.7. View technical education training U-Tube videos as they become available
1.8. Attend promoted training courses as organized by your State Sporting Department, ASC or your STTA
1.1. Complete your mandatory annual paperwork in a timely manner including, Statement by Supplier, Bank Details, Mileage Claim Forms, FOP Claims, NOAS On-Line ASC Course and Technical Log Registers
1.2. Submit to the Technical Committee evidence to support your readiness to begin the transition pathway for the next Level as laid out in the TA Policy Document
1.3. Show your commitment by volunteering on the State Technical Committee
1.4. Participate and contribute to the culture amongst TO’s and the technical program
PLAN A: REMOTE COUNTRY DEVELOPMENT (STATE SPECIFIC)
Funding obtained to conduct Level 1 Technical Officials Courses in remote regions –
WA 2010/11 Locations – Broome, Esperance, Nickel Bay
2.1. Refer to Course Flyer for Course Details
2.2. Fly up Friday after work or Saturday am – 1 x Supervisor + min 1 x Presenter
2.3. Conduct Level 1 Course on Saturday 9-3pm
2.4. Conduct the Practical Experience at a sanctioned race and Sunday
2.5. Fly/drive back Sunday after the race
2.6. Funding to include all travel, meals and accommodation (Refer to Accommodation Standards. Reimbursement by receipt or equal to ATO recommendations.)
2.7. Allow for the Supervisor to revisit the location in 4-6 weeks at another race to monitor the progress of the new Level 1’s.
PLAN B: REMOTE COUNTRY DEVELOPMENT (STATE SPECIFIC)
Funding obtained for a TD to visit a country race each season –
WA 2010/11 Locations include: Albany, Bunbury, Busselton, Geraldton, Hedland, Kalgoorlie
2.8. Fly up Friday after work or Saturday am
2.9. Saturday afternoon conduct 2hr Technical Official Refresher Course followed by a 1hr session in Running a Safe Race
2.10. Deliver to TO’s, RD’s, Club Organizer’s, Marshall’s and various support authorities
2.11. Sunday officiate at the sanctioned race
2.12. TO Refresher Course Pre-requisite – NOAS On-Line ASC Course
2.13. This program may also be run in conjunction with “Plan A” locations
OTHER FORMS OF PERSONNEL DEVELOPMENT
Examples such as the following may be logged in the TO’s Technical Log
3.1. Assist clubs in running events, accessing risk and providing technical advise
3.2. Attend sport specific seminars
3.3. Attend a recognized First Aid Course
3.4. Undertake sports related tertiary education e.g. Sports admin or management
3.5. Undertake an event management course
3.6. Attend a leadership/ risk management/communication training programs (or other related topics)
3.7. Attend a ‘related’ NOAS course e.g. a triathlon official attends a Level 1 Swimming officials course
3.8. Become a member of the sport’s Officials Association
